What do your hands look like when you're dreaming? Somebody told me that her hands look blurry when she looks at them in a dream, and when I looked at them in my dream I expected the same thing. Instead my fingers were misshapen and grotesque looking, with all different shapes and sizes. They distorted as I moved them, like I was looking at an optical illusion. I'm wondering if this is fucked up? And whether I actually had a lucid dream or was just dreaming that I did.

I did it at least three times and all of them my hands looked the same.

In my dreams my hands usually have additional fingers/additional joints in the fingers themselves/overall very distorted and disproportional appearance.

It doesn't really bother me though, even if I don't go lucid.

It's actually a pretty good reality check for that matter.

Did it bother you at first?

Hands usually work as a reality check. Actually, they never look the same for me. Sometimes mine will be long and thin, or covered in long hairs made of shadow. I think it depends on the dream.

OP here. Had another dream and looked at my hands and they seemed normal, except that I couldn't focus on them and they were all no matter how close or far I moved them from my face. It was a short dream so I only managed to do it once.

my hands look fine except that my skin is really smooth and in reality it is dry.

So they're not blurry or distorted or anything? Does looking at them make you aware that you're dreaming?

It's more the fact that they're not normal. Looking at them doesn't magically make you lucid.

My hands were...weird..long sharp nails, because I enjoy slaughtering peoples in my dreams, my hands I couldnt see them. I saw trough them.

It's not fucked up at all in that context, OP. Looking at one's hands is one of the more reliable reality checks.

When I look at mine in the Dreaming, I see extra fingers, missing fingers, crab claws, shit like that. There's always a difference.

But, really when you think about it, it IS fucked up. Why our hands? I mean, sure, everything in the dream world is distorted and constantly changing, but why do our hands look different every time we look at them?

I'm pretty sure if you manage to look at your feet, or any other part of your body they would look weird too. But I think we are more used to look at our hands. I think they look strange because we can't really focus during dreaming. You can't read properly either. I once saw my watch on a dream and the time had more than 30 digits and the all fitted in a digital wristwatch.

I specifically looked at my foot in my dream earlier. It was actually a lot prettier than my normal foot, but it didn't make me question my reality at all. There were ants on my foot, and I was focusing on whether or not I'd feel an itch instead.

The idea of having monstrous hands sounds pretty scary to me. I don't really recall ever looking at my hands in dreams...

Just the other night I was looking at my hands in a dream. Parts of my fingers were missing, like I lost them in some sort of accident.
it did not really bother me though and sadly I did not go lucid.

My hand usually look like the alien hands from District 9.

Interestingly, my hand usually feels normal and I can't feel the extra long bendy alien fingers

Actually that is supossed to happen... have you ever noticed how in normal dreams you hardly ever see your hands... well thats why. I've read on some lucid dreaming sites that looking at your hands is a good reality check because they often times are either blurry or really messed up. Another good reality check I've read up on is to look in a mirror. You will either see a really messed up version of you... like really messed up to the point of your turning your LD into a nightmare, or a version of what you truly believe is what you look like; for example if you think you're fat you'd look fat in the mirror... etc.
